Bike-Packing - Kane Creek, Moab 10/25/24

Prerequisite - MUST have Mt Biked 20+ miles of hard up and down trail in the last 2 years and have backpacking experience. MUST know how to do basic bike repairs (change a flat, address possible drive chain issues).

Sample Itinerary:

Friday

Carpooling - 7am (3hr drive from Provo)

Trailhead - 11am

Ride - 12pm

Camp - evening

Saturday

Ride - 7am

Back to Trailhead - TBD

Directions: Moab Info Center, Moab

Activity:

Mt Bike/E-Bike Bike Packing Kane Creek - 57 miles in 2 days. The Kane Creek Pritchett Canyon Loop is an overnighter bikepacking route that follows sandy doubletrack through the scenic Kane Creek canyon and over the ridges in the Behind The Rocks area before culminating with an epic descent down Pritchett Canyon.

  • If doing the full loop: park at Amasa TH, pit toilet available, no permit or fee required, this is good distance from entrance to Kane and exit from Pritchett. Use bypass over HWY to avoid deathly traffic. (VERY difficult river crossings, uphill rocky roads - takes MUCH longer than anticipated)

  • If only doing Kane Creek, park at Chicken Corners, no permit, no fee, no bathroom. No shade on route though Kane until you reach the creek crossings. Route is regular dirt bike/jeep trail - expect to run into them and expect full MTB experience: gravel, hard packed dirt, rock gardens, boulders with drops, deep sand, creek crossings
