6:45 pm - Continue up another 0.2 miles on the left trail to the springs for a 4 mi loop
7 pm - Cocoa/soup and hike back
8-8:30 pm - Arrive back at parking lot
Drive: Top parking lot (furthest west), Big Springs Park, Provo Cyn
Activities:
Hike/Snowshoe Big Springs trails - 3 mile loop. Started north of parking lot and crossed small bridge and headed west through the woods. You get to a meadow in about 15-20 min. Then continued on, through the woods until about 1.5 miles where the trail meets the road. Great place to turn around and make it a loop or you can continue on either trail for more miles. This is where we stopped for hot cocoa/tea and soup, then turned around and came back through either the road or tree trail back. Map of trail (longer version) and summer trail report.
Tips: Bathrooms are locked up for the winter. Cell reception is spotty. Trail is great. We just used spikes, but snowshoes would have worked if we walked on the side of the trail. The trail was packed down snow.
Gear: Micro Spikes or Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON) thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve
fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or
regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1
Liters water (not in hydration pack as the tubes will freeze), 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also rent "overshoes", thermoses of soup and hot beverages.
