Youth Hiking - Bells Canyon Reservoir, Sandy

Rope swing and beautiful reservoir for exploring.

Sample Itinerary:

9-112 pm - Hike

Directions: Granite Trailhead, Sandy (Parking lot can fill up quickly. There is an overflow parking lot HERE with it's own trailhead)

Activity: Hiking Bells Canyon Reservoir - 1.4 miles total out and back. Switchbacks to a nice view. Rocky, dirt trail. Continue on past a fun boulder to play on on the left and then up to the reservoir. To get to the rope swing, take the trail directly south and down after you get to the reservoir. Follow the paths down and to the left to the edge of the water. This is drinking water so NO SWIMMING or WADING.  All Trails Trip Report  (We will just be doing the bottom portion to the reservoir)

Tips:

  • Great for picnicing, just watch out for the Canada Geese, they can get assertive.

  • If you want to go around the whole lake there is a good trail EXCEPT for the east side, which will involve a stream crossing and a wet and muddy slog through dense shrubs.

Bathrooms - yes at trailhead

Cell Reception - yes

Dogs - no

Gear: 1 L water, snacks, hiking shoes, shorts/T-shirt, long sleeve, rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, backpack
